This is the beginning. . . .
well, at least it is my beginning on Substack. I am a creative content writer looking for a home and I think this platform might just be it. I have my website - Food Abundance Revolution - and that is still where you will go to find my programs. But it is challenging to “start” writing on a fresh website with no audience. Substack has an audience. Substack has you! And that’s why I have come here.
Why this? Why now?
The Naturalized Human is my way of sharing with you the things I am learning about our Mind-Body connection. Our biology affects everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) about our lives.
It shapes how we see the world. It actually shapes WHAT we are able to see and notice. It affects whether our lives feel like a daily grind or a walk in the park. It influences whether we dance in the rain, or stay indoors and watch from a window.
And yet, more and more, people are utterly disconnected from themselves, from each other, and from their biological roots that make us all humans.
I believe the more you understand how the human race evolved, and the science behind how our mind-body connection works, the better choices you can make in your own life, and the more health and wellness you will find.
You are an ancient human living a modern world. I want to explore what this means.
My primary focus right now has been on the Mind-Body-Food connection. How do our five senses work and what does that mean when we look specifically at why we eat the foods that we choose? How do your senses impact whether you achieve health and wellness? What is your relationship with food to begin with? How does your biology affect what you eat? And what exactly does knowing this mean for the choices you make?
I am also deeply interested in exploring our human connection to nature. How does nature affect us? How can even snippets of nature (like backyard gardens or potted houseplants) improve our health and wellness?
I hope you will join me here and let’s find out.
Building a community
What I hope to build here isn’t simply a blog. I want you to join me as we seek answers to questions that are impacting our health and wellness. Why do you choose the foods that you do? What happens when you spend time in nature? How can you take steps to change your impact on the planet (and literally help save the world because climate change is here!)?
I want to do what I do best. I want to help translate the latest science into meaningful threads that can help you make better decisions for your own life. I am not here to proclaim I have the answers. I am here to help separate some current facts from fiction, and to hone in on how those current facts can be applied.
In the end it is all an experiment. Take some steps. See what the results are. Report back and help others learn. I can share with you what’s lead me here. You can decide for yourself what parts might help you choose to do the same, or run the other way and know that’s not happening in your world. Either way, we get to explore and learn.
What’s to come?
Here’s the plan. I am going to start writing on Substack (and spend less time on Medium and other sites). . . . at the beginning of the month I will post a free summary-style post of the topic(s) I am exploring. For my subscribers, I will dive into more details with science and the possible actions or applications.
My focus is on health and wellness at the junction of our mind-body connection and the natural world. I will of course explore food - because without food none of us will survive long. And food is going to become more and more dear as we see the impacts of climate change on food growing regions around the world. The more you know, the better prepared you can be.
In the meantime, you can check out my website Food Abundance Revolution. This where the deepest dives, programs and coaching opportunities will live. There are two things available right now.
You can jump right in now and learn how to grow food in a fast, small-scale 30-day garden mini-course that will teach you the basics of growing a continuous supply of greens and saving seeds for yourself. You don’t need experience, or a lot of time, or a lot of space. I walk you through all the steps week by week to help you find immediate success and see just how easy growing food can be (check out the Get Started Garden Mini-course here).
The second FAR program is the Mind-Body-Food Connection. This program is an in-depth look at how our five senses impact our food choices and how Big-business manipulates you into buying and eating food that is making you sick and them rich. It is a 7 week program + 6 additional weeks of support so you can apply what you can explore your relationship with food and make better choices. You can sign up for notification of the next launch of the Mind-Body-Food Connection here).
What your subscription means
For sure, there’s a ton of free content on the internet. I get that. What I hope to do through The Naturalized Human is bring together my experience as a professional biologist and professional agrologist, as a farmer, gardener, seed saver, ecologist, mother and ancient human, into a package that inspires you to explore your life in new ways and create new levels of health and wellness. THAT isn’t freely available on the internet, anywhere.
Your contribution (via paid subscription) helps me share more of my knowledge and insight with the world. I hope that Substack will become my full-time focus in association with the programming at Food Abundance Revolution.
I hope to see you here often!
I hope to get to know you well and serve you better.
And I want to hear your questions, so that I can focus my attention on exploring what the solutions might look like, solutions that create health and wellness for each of us, and a better planet for the future.
