The Naturalized Human

By Sue Senger, PhD, RPBio, PAg

The Naturalized Human explores the science behind what it means to be human through the mind-body-food connection. If we are ancient humans living in a modern world, and we are what we eat, then understanding how to create wellness through our food and our environments is as important to us now as it was to our ancestors.

Come with me on a journey through the crossroads of wellness, mindset, food, biology, and nature. Together we can find meaningful lifestyles that sustain us, bring us joy, and generate abundance.

Current sections include:

  • Mind-Body-Food Connection (2/3 paid)

  • Growing Food (mostly free)

  • Ecological Harmony (mix of paid and free)

  • Wellness (mix of paid and free)

  • Successful Seed Saving 101 (paid subscribers only)

Free Subscribers get access to all the free posts and previews of the paid content. I try to create one free post each week, depending on the depth of research that’s been necessary to cover the topics.

Paid Subscribers get exclusive posts, as well as any programming that I am developing to further explore specific topics. Right now, thanks to paid subscriber requests, I am creating a program called Successful Seed Saving 101. This is a deep dive into saving your own seeds to generate free food - something we all need as food prices skyrocket and availability becomes less reliable.

Your paid support ensures that I can continue to write quality independent content delivered to you inbox or for reading on the apps.

Come with your questions, and leave with knowledge and actions that can support a more healthier life in an ever more complex modern world.

Benefactors are the super-heroes of the story! This option lets you choose to support The Naturalized Human to whatever extent suits you beyond the current annual rate of $50 US. This options allows you to generously support independent writing, and enables me to pay for the research tools I use to explore topics deeply (so that you don’t have to!).

About me

I am a small-scale farmer, mother, strategic planner, biologist, agrologist, researcher, and an independent writer.

I live on Rose Hill Farm where I grow a lot of my own foods and raise heirloom livestock like Dexter cows, Silver Appleyard ducks and a variety of chickens. I am constantly testing new ways of growing food and integrating ecosystem principles into my practices. I simply LOVE GREAT FOOD.

The more I explore what it means to be human, how we evolved in a world so very different from today, the more I come to understand how modern life is creating so much stress and disease. Finding ways to work within our biology and nature to generate better health and wellness lead me to start TNH and share my research with you.

I am a professional biologist (RPBio) and professional agrologist (PAg). I have a PhD in Biology from the Simon Fraser University and a MSc in Plant Science from the University of British Columbia. I have lived and worked as an independent ecologist within the St’at’imc Nation territory (near Lillooet, BC) for nearly 30 years. This is where the strategic planning, best management practices, and policy development side of my career come in. I work at very large scales (landscapes) and develop strategies that support current use while trying to ensure future generations will also enjoy the resources of this area. You can hear about my latest work on Mule deer winter range and recovery from the catastrophic McKay Creek Wildfire in this two part CBC Radio Ideas program that highlights what our team is doing there.
