This is such an amazing post. I found it on notes this morning, and loved it (and subscribed). I'm a fellow Canadian, in the "Garden valley" of Manitoba. In late fall when the crops are in and the wind picks up, sometimes the air is dirty brown, as the soil blows across the fields. It always amazes me how accepted and 'normal' this is to the farming community.

Hi Adrienne! Welcome! What a complete heart break for a place called "Garden valley"!

It is insane that bare soil practices were ever normalized (after the 1930's Dust Bowl you think North Americans would have learned?), but the fact that it is 2024 and we KNOW better and STILL it continues is nearly criminal. Your bio/intro talks about future generations . . . but what hope for growing food in the future is left when the soils blow away?
